Chamlang Expedition

35 Days 34 Nights

Mount Chamlang (7,319 meters) is an impressive peak located in eastern Nepal, approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Mount Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest mountain. Situated in the southern part of the Mahalangur Himalayan range, Chamlang is renowned for its dramatic, technical terrain characterized by steep faces, exposed ridges, deep crevasses, and hanging seracs.

The first successful ascent of Chamlang was achieved by a Japanese expedition team on 31st May 1962, led by Dr. Seiki Nakano, along with climbers Soh Anma and Nepali Sherpa Pasang Phutar. Since then, the mountain has earned a strong reputation among elite alpinists for its challenging ice routes and demanding vertical sections, making it a true test of skill, endurance, and high-altitude experience.

A key feature of the expedition is the Chamlang Base Camp, which serves as the main staging point for climbers. Here, teams acclimatize to altitude, organize logistics, plan their ascent strategies, and prepare for the technical climb ahead. The base camp also fosters a unique mountaineering atmosphere where climbers from different backgrounds share experiences, knowledge, and motivation before heading into the high mountains.
