Himlung Expedition

31 Days 30 Nights

Himlung Himal Expedition (7,126m) is an ideal choice for experienced climbers seeking a rewarding Himalayan ascent or those aiming to build high-altitude experience before attempting peaks above 8,000 meters. Climbers with Alpine PD+/AD route experience (or those familiar with Scottish Grade I/II winter climbs) will find the ascent particularly enjoyable. While the route is not highly technical, it is physically demanding, typically requiring 11 to 15 days from Base Camp to summit and return. The full expedition duration is approximately 31 days, Kathmandu to Kathmandu, including acclimatisation and climbing periods.

Overview

The Himlung Himal Expedition is located in the remote Manaslu region near the Tibetan border, to the northeast of the Annapurna range. The area was opened to foreign expeditions in 1992 and remains one of Nepal’s less-traveled and pristine regions. The approach follows the classic Annapurna Circuit route up to Koto, then diverges toward Nar and Phu villages.

The journey passes through a remarkable variety of landscapes, including high mountain passes, narrow gorges, alpine forests, rocky terrain, natural springs, ancient monasteries (Gompas), and traditional Himalayan settlements. Due to its isolation and restricted access, the region receives very few visitors, preserving its untouched natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
