Tilicho Peak Expedition

33 Days 32 Nights

Tilicho Peak (7,134m) Expedition is one of the most impressive 7,000-meter climbing adventures in the Annapurna region. Located approximately 210 km west of Kathmandu, this magnificent peak stands as a striking feature of the Himalayan landscape and leaves a lasting impression on every climber who approaches it.

First successfully climbed in 1978 by Emanuel Schmutz of a French expedition team, Tilicho Peak was ascended via the Northwest Shoulder route, which remains the standard climbing line approved by the Government of Nepal and the Department of Tourism. The peak forms a vital part of the Great Barrier ridge, connecting Khangsar Kang (7,558m) and Nilgiri North (7,061m), making it an important and scenic Himalayan formation. It lies close to the Annapurna range and was identified in 1950 by the expedition led by Maurice Herzog during exploration in the region.

The Tilicho Peak climbing expedition is considered technically demanding among 7,000m peaks. The journey typically follows the classic Annapurna Circuit route up to Manang village, then continues toward Tilicho Lake before advancing through Khangsar and Besi Khola to reach the base camp. From base camp, climbers establish two or three high camps depending on conditions and team strategy. The ascent from base camp to Camp I (5,800m / 19,029ft) involves steep mixed rock and ice terrain of around 45 degrees. Camp II (6,100m) is located on the shoulder and is reached via a long snow slope of approximately 50 degrees. The upper shoulder continues with sustained snow slopes, where fixed ropes are often required for safe progression toward higher camps around 6,300m.
